Mount Vernon was the 400 acre plantation home of George Washington, first President of the United States. The estate is situated on the banks of the Potomac River in Fairfax County, Virginia, near Alexandria, across from Prince George’s County, Maryland.
Mount Vernon is open 365 days a yea. It is home to the Fred W. F. Smith Washington Library and has not accepted federal funding for more than 150 years.
